February 28, 2007 Italkart Thailand - Italkart drivers on all the front rows! For the 3rd year running the Italkart drivers have shown how fast they are by setting the fastest times in Saturdays qualifying for the Thai National Championship and putting almost all the Italkarts on their respective front rows. 1st and 2nd fastest in ICA
(Dear and Daniel Schilling) Nong Petch was very fast in his new 2007 Italkart Cadet chassis during the time trials (1 full second faster than number 2) and posted the best time of the day and weekend. Nong Petch won both the first and second heat convincingly, but as the temperature rose to 43 degrees during the day, the set up was not quite right for the final and he was overtaken and ended the day in 2nd place. Sandy Stuvik in the TAG Pro Junior class was involved in a clash in the first heat, but still managed to finish in 4th, and then worked him self up to 3rd in 2nd heat, and while overtaking for 2nd in the final, he was again involved in a crash and ended up being sent out in the grass, stalling the kart. He still managed to get restarted and secured 7th thus getting some valuable points for the championship. Stephen Northcott drove faster than he has ever done before in the Clubman class. Stephen purchased a 2nd hand Italkart at the end of 2006 and this was his first real trial in the new frame. He did not have time to drive during the winter period, but still set 5th fastest time during the day and was constantly getting faster and faster until an engine problem stopped his progress for the day. Dear Schilling set a new track record in the Time trials of 1.00.878 in his new Italkart Supersonic V chassis and during Sundays race he controlled most of the day from the front. Dear won the 1st heat, and was leading the 2nd heat when he was taken out in a racing incident. He then started 5th in the Pre-final, and quickly worked his way to the front and pulled out a big lead and won the Pre-final. The final was hard and Dear got to feel that he was racing with drivers with a lot of experience who tried to intimidate him even from the warm-up laps, but Dear did not butch. The second placed driver took the start, Dear followed him closely for some laps, before making his move. He make a clean pass and then pulled out a great lead again to win the final and the 1st race of the Thai National Championship in the ICA class. Daniel Schilling was the fastest driver on the track in the hotly contested ICA class during Sundays races. Daniel finished 2nd in the first heat, making it a 1-2 finish for Italkart. He was then caught out by time, while changing a sprocket and came too late for the warm up lap. He was put to the back of the grid. He then worked him self up to 3rd, but was penalized after the heat for rough driving. He started the Pre-final from the back and worked him self up to 3rd before the chain then came of and he had to pull over. In the Final he managed to drive him self up to 2nd place, before getting taken out in a racing incident. He therefore did not finish the race, but was clearly the fastest man on the track. The track record was set by his brother Dear on new tires on a new track, but during Sunday the surface broke up several places, making the track a lot slower. Daniel still managed to do a time of 1.01.032 in the final only 0.154 sec of the track record and 2 tenth faster that the winning kart of Dear Schilling. All in all a very successful day for the Italkart drivers and we would like to wish them all the best for the remaining races of the year.
